Hydrogen from Chemical Residu

Posted under Chemical

In a major sustainability milestone for the industry, InEnTec Chemical LLC recently announced it successfully completed demonstration of its mobile Plasma Enhanced Melter (PEM system for four of the world’s largest chemical companies to produce ultra clean, hydrogen rich synthesis gas (referred to as “syngas”) from chemical residuals that would normally be treated as hazardous waste and incinerated. This follows a recent announcement by Dow Corning to adopt InEnTec Chemical’s technology for application at its Midland Michigan plant.

Biofuel

Posted under Bio, Chemical

Biofuel consist of two major categories of fuels-Bioethanol and Biodiesel, therefore there are two different procedures of producing biofuel from biomass. The methods followed have a strong impact on the end results that are achieved. There are two key reactions that are involved in the production of Bioethanol, one is Hydrolysis and the other is Fermentation.

The traditional way of producing Bioethanol would be to mix sugar, water and yeast bacteria, which are then allowed to ferment in warm environment. Gradually the mixture becomes a liquid that has an approximate of fifteen percent alcohol. As and how the alcohol percentage increases, Read the rest of this entry »

Azeotropic Distillation

Posted under Chemical

In chemistry, azeotropic distillation is any chemical process using which, a liquid mixture containing azeotropes, can be separated into its original components, by the addition of another substance (for instance an entrainer), to enable the distillation. Azeotropes have a number of uses, but are specifically used in the creation of stable non flammable compounds, made up of a combination of flammable and non flammable constituents. To begin with, it’s necessary to first understand the several concepts that the definition deals with – azeotropes, distillation and entrainers for a start. The following is a detailed explanation.
